Exploring career paths: Famous people and their first jobs

Barack Obama

Before being the US president, Barack Obama served ice cream at Baskin Robbins as one of his first jobs. To this day, Obama has “Scooping ice cream is tougher than it looks” on his LinkedIn. 

Johnny Depp

The ever-so-famous Johnny Depp’s first job was as a salesman. Before “Pirates of the Caribbean,” Depp was selling ballpoint pens over the phone. He has stated numerous times that this work helped him act in a way to relate to people, a crucial skill in acting.  

Dwayne Johnson

Now a Hollywood star and ex-pro football player, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s first job was as a dishwasher at 13. Zero experience, but he knew that to make money, you must work a lot, and a dishwasher did not require knowledge but a willingness to work and learn. This is where Dwayne gets his humble mentality.  

Childish Gambino

Otherwise known as Glover, who is known for both his acting and musical talents. He started as a humble being, breaking down boxes at a school supply store as his first job. It taught him to be modest even despite his tremendous fame.  

Chris Rock

Before being one of the most famous comedians, Chris Rock was busing tables at a Red Lobster in New York. He used to joke about the fact that you do not need education or experience to work enter-level jobs.  

Chris Pratt 

Jurassic Park, aka Chris Pratt, was almost homeless, living out of a van in Miami and working at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. it was there at Bubba Gumps that actress Rae Dawn Chong cast Pratt in a film called “Cursed: Part 3,” and Pratt found his life’s passion.

Denzel Washington

Before all Academy Award-winning movies, Denzel Washington, the university dropout, worked in a barbershop. Washington says all his life skills are because of that barbershop. He learned how to act “Because the best liars are in the barbershop.”
